MAHAGONY STANTON
I was born in St. Louis, Missouri, raised by two amazing moms and a village of aunts, uncles, and grandparents who taught me the value of expression and authenticity from day one.
My first sketches—vivid dresses drawn with Crayola markers and proudly plastered on the walls with Elmer’s glue—sparked a dream that’s fueled me ever since. Growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, I navigated my awkward teenage years with creative obsessions: Johnny Depp, That's So Raven, and America’s Next Top Model that fed my imagination and fueled my passion for a life in fashion. While my classmates sewed pillows, I was designing my first gown, convinced that design was my path.
After high school, I earned a degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising from Iowa State University, where I learned the art of draping and pattern-making and interned at a New York evening wear company. But the reality—desk work, tech packs, and feeling invisible as a 6-foot-tall, plus-size Black woman—left me disillusioned. Rediscovering the fearless little girl who once covered her walls in designs, I broke free from the constraints I had internalized.
Today, my mission is clear: to inspire others to embrace their individuality, empowering them to celebrate their beauty through my designs. Fashion, for me, is about creating a world where everyone feels free to be unapologetically themselves.
